Here’s some info on Coach Al.

Coach Al Lyman is an active and multifaceted percussionist with an extensive background in many genres of music. He’s entering his 3rd season with the Venice Symphony after moving to Florida with his partner Terry, in 2016. After surprisingly winning an audition in 1979 at the young age of 19, Al became a member of the United States Coast Guard Band, one of the five “Premier” service bands in the United States. He retired in 2007 after an illustrious 28-year career during which he traveled around the U.S. and internationally, performing thousands of concerts, many as a featured xylophone soloist. However, his newest goals in music revolve around the vibraphone!

Also known as “Coach Al,” he is also the owner/co-founder of Pursuit Athletic Performance, an internationally recognized endurance sports coaching company and gait-analysis laboratory. Al would best describe himself simply as a "human movement specialist." His passion is helping people from every walk of life, to live in good health and age gracefully.

Besides being certified by USA Triathlon, USA Cycling and the Cooper Institute for Aerobics Research, Al is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with the NSCA, a certified Fascial Stretch Therapist with Stretch To Win, a certified Functional Range Mobility Specialist with FRC, a certified Functional Movement Screen provider with FMS, a certified Barefoot Training Specialist with EBFA, a certified Hardstyle Kettlebell instructor with Dragon Door, and is certified in clinical gait analysis with Medical Motion, a subsidiary of Sports Motion, Inc.

Among the highlights of an almost 40-year career as an endurance athlete is his personal best of 2:39:37 at the Boston Marathon. Al is also a 9-time Ironman Triathlon finisher, including three finishes at the prestigious Ironman World Championships in KailuaKona, Hawaii.
