AV = Advanced Voicings

Listen to the Beginning of All Blues when Bill Evans comes in. He plays a cluster E, F, G, A . When I figured it out I was blown away. The chord was G7 and it was time for him to represent that chord with the music and his chord consisted of seconds. Amazing! That's when I learned about clusters and using seconds to represent harmony.

Then I began a journey thinking about clusters. As soon as I realized that a 9th is a 2nd, an 11th is a 4th and a 13th is a 6th I realized it's all potential clusters as soon as you add extensions and close the chord. Once I learned about clusters I began hearing them everywhere. Herbie certainly knows about clusters and Chick surely does. So does Stravinski and Debussy. We all know that Gary Burton sound which is really just a country music sound of a C triad with an added 2nd. Well C, D, E. That's acluster!
